It's a much easier process than it sounds, btw Calibre's editor is VERY easy to use.
What that will do is let your Kobo figure out the styles itself and - in the process - (hopefully) fix your problem. Then tell Calibre to automatically fix any errors it finds (Kobo will ignore any remaining errors in the book) then save the edits. If it doesn't, try editing the book in Calibre (you'll have to edit it in epub or azw3 format, then convert it back after you're done.) Edit the css styles directly in Calibre's editor if you know what you're doing (and you probably don't it's arcane code) or just delete those css files.
